Remembering Giya Kancheli — Ninna Nanna per Anna

Today, Giya Kancheli would have turned 89 years old. Since the Maestro's passing, not a year goes by without feeling his profound absence — but his extraordinary music continues to live on as a treasured legacy. In 2018, at the invitation of Extended Place Founder & Producer Alessandro Stella, Giya Kancheli created a version for flute and piano of his Ninna Nanna per Anna, originally composed for flute and string quartet. In the Maestro's own words: "Though this version is shorter than the original, I think that it is more compact in form and dramaturgy and corresponds better with a lullaby." The following year, Mauro Conti and Alessandro Stella recorded this new version as a world premiere, with the support of the Georgia in the Holy See. Originally released by Continuo Records, Ninna Nanna per Anna has recently been reissued by Extended Place in the EP Echoes series.
