About this release
The editorial history of Ponce's 24 Preludes is as complex as it is fascinating. Completed in the 1920s, only twelve were published in Andrés Segovia's 1930 edition; the complete cycle waited nearly half a century to appear in full. In (in)complete preludes, Giacomo Palazzesi approaches the entire cycle through a close study of the manuscript — including the choice not to replace the missing Prelude in G major, leaving that silence to the listener.
This Prelude in D minor, a Spanish folksong in spirit, opens the journey.
